The Habit That Will Change Your Life
This one was inspired by one of my kids — the one who has always asked why.
At three.
At ten.
And… still at sixteen.
It used to drive me a little nuts. If I’m honest, it still does.
And — it turns out — it’s one of the most powerful habits a person can have.
Here it is:
Follow every thought with “why.”
Especially your shoulds.
“I should say yes.”
Why?
“I should say no.”
Why?
“I shouldn’t eat this.”
Why?
“I should go to that networking event.”
Why?
When we slow down enough to ask why, we often discover that the first answer isn’t actually ours.
It’s inherited.
Borrowed.
Internalized.
Outdated.
Ask why again.
And maybe again.
Eventually, something shifts.
What’s real becomes clear.
What’s not falls away.
Some things turn into a full-body yes.
Others into an equally clear no.
That’s the habit.
Not fixing.
Not forcing.
Just listening more honestly.
And letting your life be shaped by what’s actually true for you.
