Building an Anti-Capitalist Business Rooted in Enough

Lately, I’ve been sitting with what it really means to live— and work— in an anti-capitalist way.

For me, the opposite of “more” isn’t “less.” It’s enough.

Slow, feminist business ritual with journaling, candlelight, and seasonal reflection

What Enough Looks Like

Being anti-capitalist isn’t about scarcity or denial. It’s about choosing joy in what already is.

🌿 Gratitude for my 2016 Honda Civic, instead of chasing a shiny new Tesla.

🌿 Filling my little two-bedroom with beauty, instead of overextending to keep up appearances.

🌿 Choosing to stay small in business if that’s what feels nourishing, instead of chasing empire-building just because the internet says I should.

As Edward Abbey said:

“Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell.”

Anti-capitalist business is the same: rooted, sustainable, content. Not extractive. Not endless. Just… enough.

How It Shows Up in Business

For me, an anti-capitalist business means:

    •    Trading time for money with zero shame.

    •    Working 1:1 with clients, because I love intimacy over scale.

    •    Charging what feels aligned in my gut, not what a business coach tells me will “10x my revenue.”

    •    Honoring the seasons—of nature, of my body, of my clients—rather than pushing for constant growth.

This is slow business. Feminist business. Seasonal business.

The Myth of Scarcity

Capitalism survives on the lie of “never enough.”

But the truth? There are more than enough resources for everyone. Water, food, shelter, education, healthcare.

The problem isn’t scarcity—it’s hoarding. The top 10% hold half of the world’s wealth, while the bottom 10% survive on scraps.

Scarcity is manufactured to keep us hustling. To keep us believing if we just work harder, we might finally “make it.”

I don’t buy that story anymore.

Why I Believe Business Can Be Medicine

If we’re not using our businesses to shift the paradigm, what’s the point?

Every business—yes, even yours—can be a seed of the world we long for. A world rooted in collaboration, reciprocity, enoughness.

Your business can give back. It can nourish you, your community, and the earth.

This is what I’m practicing at Wildish.
