Mental health & Capitalism

The invisible obstacle when it comes to mental health?

Capitalism.

If you're working like crazy and still just getting by, you're far from alone.

Living paycheck-to-paycheck is incredibly stressful. It's the elephant in the room when it comes to our country's mental health.

It creates a constant whisper of “You're not safe,” which leads to spiraling thoughts, trouble sleeping, sympathetic dominance, muscle tension, headaches, excessive fatigue, heart disease, autoimmune issues….

  • Laboring for a wage is soul-sucking.

  • Slogging day in and day out in a meaningless, thankless job leads to burnout.

  • Having to choose between eating healthy food or paying the bills is oppressive.

  • Blowing off medical care because of financial worries is draconian.

  • Going back to work three months after giving birth, leaving tiny babies at daycare for 8-10 hours a day isn't natural, and goes against every ounce of our innate mothering intuition.

In a country that associates money with power, not having any leads to shame and depression and feelings of worthlessness.

Living paycheck to paycheck creates a heavy burden on our wellbeing, and this financial stress affects quality of life.
